COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its Week 4 Softball Athletes of the Week awards, with Chadron State Freshman pitcher Belle Akins and Regis Senior infielder Morgan Norris taking home the conference’s latest awards.
Pitcher of the Week: Belle Akins, Chadron State (Fr., Elkhorn, Nebraska)
Chadron State Freshman pitcher Belle Akins put on a phenomenal performance in their weekend series versus New Mexico Highlands. Akins went 2-0 over the course of the series, including a save, with a 1.73 ERA over 8.1 innings of work. In the series finale, Akins threw a five Inning no-hitter, which was the first no-hitter for Chadron State since 2011. This was the first start in RMAC play for Akins, who only threw 55 pitches in the outing. Chadron State won all three of the outings in which Akins pitched in the game.
Honorable Mention: Laci Peskey (Black Hills State), Emma Duncan (Colorado Christian), Jessalyn Gallegos (Colorado Christian), Kat Miller (Colorado Mines), Vanesa Candito (Regis)
Player of the Week: Morgan Norris, Regis (Sr., Gilbert, Arizona)
Norris was the offensive leader for Regis as they went 3-1 in their series versus Adams State this past weekend. Norris batted a .462 average, totaling six hits across the weekend series. Of the six hits Norris racked up in the series, she hit two doubles, one triple, and one homerun. Norris also notched eight runs batted in and scored twice.
