CMU’s Horton and BHSU’s Higgins Secure RMAC Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released its latest Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards on Thursday. Colorado Mesa junior Gaby Horton and Black Hills State freshman Isabell Higgins earn the conference’s latest honors.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Gaby Horton, Colorado Mesa (Jr., Grand Junction, Colorado)
Horton capped off the 2024-25 Indoor Track & Field regular season in spectacular fashion, clinching the 200 meters title at the RMAC Last Chance Meet hosted by Western Colorado. With a blazing finish, Horton crossed the line in 24.25 seconds, setting a new personal best. After altitude conversion, her time was adjusted to an impressive 24.02, solidifying her lead atop the RMAC performance list. Additionally, Horton’s performance propelled her to 13th place in the DII national rankings.
 
Honorable Mention: Lieke Hoogsteen, Adams State; Saraya Afrank, Black Hills State; Allyson Heiden, South Dakota Mines; Myia Dantzler, Western Colorado.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Isabell Higgins, Black Hills State (Fr., Rapid City, South Dakota)
Higgins delivered a standout performance at the Golden Eagle Last Chance meet on Saturday, securing a victory in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 16.42m. The freshman’s throw earned her a spot on the school’s all-time indoor performance list, ranking ninth in program history. Additionally, she achieved a top five finish in the shot put, placing fourth with a mark of 11.76m.
