COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa graduate student Jennesis Martinez is the 2024-25 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Wrestling Academic Athlete of the Year, the league announced Thursday. The 2024-25 Women’s Wrestling Academic All-RMAC Team and Academic Honor Roll selections are announced alongside Martinez’s honor.

Martinez, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, earned recognition on the 2023-24 Academic All-RMAC First Team before earning the prestigious title of Academic Athlete of the Year this season. Her efforts in the classroom have earned her four National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American honors throughout her career. On the mat, she is a four-time All-American and five-time National Championship qualifier. At this year’s National Championship, Martinez finished 2-2, just one win away from becoming the first Maverick to secure five All-America honors. As a graduate student, she successfully defended her 103-pound title at the 2025 RMAC Women’s Wrestling Championship, contributing to the Mavericks’ championship victory.

Martinez paces a 10-member First Team Academic All-RMAC group with all five of the league’s teams represented. Five student-athletes, including Martinez, are repeat honorees from the 2023-24 season, with Poorna Babu (Texas Woman’s), Hania Halverson (Colorado Mesa), Karstin Hollen (Chadron State), Shania Wear (Chadron State) earning back-to-back selections.
In addition, the RMAC recognized 27 student-athletes, including the 10 Academic All-RMAC honorees, on its 2024-25 Women’s Wrestling Academic Honor Roll.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who academically maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and have used a season of competition.

Each institution’s athletic communications directors nominate student-athletes who academically maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, along with the other criteria for the Academic Honor Roll, for recognition on the First Team Academic All-RMAC in each sport. The league’s athletic communications directors for that sport vote to compose the First Team Academic All-RMAC and select the Academic Player of the Year. They are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
