CMU’s Havel and Hawkins Grab RMAC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its Week 5 RMAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week awards on Monday. Colorado Mesa takes home both awards, with Courtney Havel and Heather Hawkins claiming the offensive and defensive awards, respectively.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Courtney Havel, Colorado Mesa (Jr., Attack, Lake Oswego, Oregon)
Havel played a key role in the Mavericks’ undefeated week, beating conference foes Regis and University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Against the Rangers, Havel netted a career-high six unassisted goals on eight attempts, for an .875 shot-on-goal percentage. The junior also recorded a pair of assists, bumping her to eight points on the day. Against the Mountain Lions, the attacker scored five more goals and nabbed another assist, pushing her squad to an 18-15 victory. On the weekend, Havel registered 14 points with 11 goals and three assists.
 
Honorable Mention: Becky Goetsch, Regis; Sofia Watts, UCCS; Holly Shoughro, Westminster.
 
Defensive Player of the Week: Heather Hawkins, Colorado Mesa (Fr., Goalie, Palmer Lake, Colorado)
Hawkins defended the cage for the Mavericks, making 22 saves in two games. In the Mavs first road win against the Rangers in program history, Hawkins went the distance, saving 11 shots along the way. She followed that with another 11-save outing against the Mountain Lions, adding seven groundballs to her game total. With Hawkins in the cage, the Mavericks started conference play undefeated.
