UCCS Wins RMAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

Mountain Lions claim six gold medals over two days

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs claimed its fifth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
 
The host Mountain Lions claimed the title with 191 total points, outlasting 2024 champions Colorado School of Mines, which scored 160 points to finish second. Adams State (58 points) finished third, followed by Western Colorado (53) and Metropolitan State University of Denver (44) to round out the championships’ top five teams.
 
UCCS’ KJ McInnis won the Dr. Randy Rhine Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Meet after earning 23 points. He captured the gold medal in the high jump (2.04m, 6’ 8¼”), added a silver medal in the triple jump (14.90m, 48’ 10½”), and finished fourth in the men’s long jump (7.21m, 23’ 7¾”).
 
The Mountain Lions scored points in 14 of the championships’ 17 events, scoring 10 or more points in 13. UCCS goal medalists included their Distance Medley Relay unit, Luke Hard in the men’s weight throw, Caiden Macktinger in the pole value, Richard Safoh in the long jump, Jagger Zlotoff in the mile run, and McInnis in the high jump.
 
Five championship records fell during the two-day event. Colorado School of Mines Jonah Fallon set a record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.84 seconds on Saturday. Adams State’s 4x400 meter relay team broke the record with a 3:14.90 to cap the championship. On Friday, UCCS’ Caiden Macktinger set the record in the pole vault with a 5.32m effort.  UCCS’ Luke Hard set a record in the weight throw with a 19.91m toss. Colorado School of Mines’ Everett Delate topped the 60-meter record with a 7.81 second dash in Friday’s preliminaries.
