Colorado School of Mines Wins Third-Straight RMAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

Orediggers Avery Wright earns Dr. Randy Rhine Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Meet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines successfully defended its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at Mountain Lion Fieldhouse, winning the title for the third consecutive year.
 
The Orediggers scored 140.5 points to narrowly defeat championship host University of Colorado Colorado Springs, which finished with 131.5 points. Colorado Mesa University finished third with 87 points, followed by New Mexico Highlands (78.5 points) and Colorado State University-Pueblo (71 points).
 
Colorado School of Mines' Avery Wright claimed the Dr. Randy Rhine Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Meet after earning 22.5 points. She won the women’s indoor pentathlon (3,561 points), finished second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.59), and sixth in the women’s shot put (12.89m, 42’ 3¼”), before joining the Orediggers’ third-place 4x400 meter relay group.
 
The Orediggers scored points in 14 of the championships’ 17 events, scoring 10 or more points in five events, including a 26.5-point haul in the pole vault and 22 points in the 5,000-meter run. Colorado School of Mines had three gold medalists: Wright in the pentathlon, Hayley Rayburn in the pole vault, and Jennifer Jarnagin in the weight throw,
 
CSU Pueblo’s Helen Braybrook broke the championships’ 800-meter run record on Saturday, finishing in 2:06.97. That record joined Rayburn’s record in the pole vault from Friday.
