COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University senior swimmer Dejan Urbanek is the 2024-25 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Player of the Year, leading a 16-member First Team Academic All-RMAC Team as selected by the league’s athletic communication directors.

The Novi Sad, Serbia native entered the spring semester with a 3.87 grade-point average as a computer science major at Colorado Mesa. At the RMAC Championships, Urbanek won five events: the 100 Butterfly, 200 Butterfly, and 200 Medley Relay, and was a member of the Mavericks, winning 400 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay units. He finished his career as a 16-time RMAC Champion and 19-time All-RMAC honoree.

Urbanek earned All-American honors three times at this season’s NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships, earning honors as a member of the Mavericks’ 800 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Medley Relay teams. He also competed individually in the 100 and 200 Butterfly events.

The 16-member First Team Academic All-RMAC group is highlighted by Colorado Mesa graduate student Gavin Anderson, who earned his fourth Academic All-RMAC honor. Colorado School of Mines Jaron O'Grady and Colorado Mesa’s Jacob Troescher also earned their third Academic All-RMAC recognition.

In addition, the RMAC recognized 58 student-athletes, including the 16 Academic All-RMAC honorees, on its 2024-25 Men’s Swimming & Diving Academic Honor Roll.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who academically maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and have used a season of competition.

Each institution’s athletic communications directors nominate student-athletes who academically maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, along with the other criteria for the Academic Honor Roll, for recognition on the First Team Academic All-RMAC in each sport. The league’s athletic communications directors for that sport vote to compose the First Team Academic All-RMAC and select the Academic Player of the Year. They are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
