GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Mya Wilson’s jumper in the lane with 2.8 seconds remaining lifted No. 6 seed University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a 63-61 victory against No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa to win its first 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, Saturday, at Brownson Arena.

UCCS (19-11) trailed most of the game and even faced a 15-point deficit in the second quarter. However, they outscored Colorado Mesa 17-11 in the third quarter to enter the final frame by only two points, 48-46. The Mountain Lions hung with the Mavericks to begin the fourth quarter and ultimately took their first lead on Amaya Snowden’s put-back jumper with 5:34 left in the game.

The two squads traded scoring possessions down the stretch. CMU had its final lead, 59-57, on Brooklyn Palmer’s layup with 2:35 left. UCCS tied the game with Ellie Reynolds’ two free throws at 1:19. The Mountain Lions regained the lead 38 seconds later on Amyah Moore Allen’s jumper. CMU tied the game again with 22 seconds left courtesy of a pair of Palmer free throws. After UCCS made the game’s final field goal, CMU had an opportunity to win, but its three-point chance hit the rim, delivering UCCS the win.

Colorado Mesa (25-5) controlled the bulk of the first half, building a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. The Mavericks pushed their advantage to 15 points, 33-20, with 5:34 left in the half. But Mya Wilson’s three-pointer with 1:16 left in the half – UCCS’ first three-pointer of the game – trimmed the CMU lead to 37-29 at halftime.

Moore Allen led all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, capping her run to “Most Valuable Player” honors. Maison White supplied 11 points and nine rebounds and earned all-tournament recognition. Snowden and Wilson also were named to the all-tournament team.

Olivia Reed Thyne, an all-tournament selection, scored a CMU-leading 18 points and six rebounds before fouling out with 3:05 left. Palmer provided 12 points and seven rebounds.

UCCS wins the RMAC automatic NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship bid. The 64-team field will be announced on the NCAA selection show at 8:30 a.m. (MT) on Sunday, March 9, and live streamed on NCAA.com.

The tournament consists of a 64-team field, including 23 automatic bids, with regionals determining the eight quarterfinalists that advance to the Women’s Elite Eight at the UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 24-28.
