COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State University’s Romain Legendre is the 2024-25 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the league announced Tuesday, along with its other major award winners and the All-RMAC roster.

Chadron State University sophomore Chayton Bynes and University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior Richard Safoh share the league’s Field Athlete of the Year honor. Adams State’s Harrison Boyd is the RMAC Freshman of the Year. Colorado School of Mines head coach Matt Sparks was selected by his peers as the league’s Coach of the Year.
The RMAC awards are selected and voted on by the league’s 13 men’s indoor track & field head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their players.

The All-RMAC Teams are based on results at the RMAC Championships, with first-, second-, and third-place finishers named First Team All-RMAC and fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finishers earning Second Team All-RMAC recognition. Additionally, members of the first-place relay teams earned First Team All-RMAC honors, while second-place relay teams received Second Team All-RMAC recognition.

Ninety individuals earned All-RMAC recognition for 108 total honors. UCCS led all teams with 24 individuals earning 35 All-RMAC honors. Also earning All-RMAC honors were Adams State (13 individuals, 15 honors), Black Hills State (4/4), Chadron State (4/4), Colorado Christian (1/2), Colorado School of Mines (18/20), Colorado Mesa (4/5), CSU Pueblo (3/3), Fort Lewis (2/2), MSU Denver (5/6), South Dakota Mines (5/5), Western Colorado (7/7).

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Legendre its Division II Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Athlete of the Year in March after winning both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter events at the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Carpentras, France native set Division II records in both events, completing the 3,000-meter run in 7:36.28 and the 5,000-meter run in 13:02.08.

Bynes, a Chadron, Nebraska native, finished fifth in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with a leap of 15.32m (50’ 3.25”) and had the league’s top triple jump effort of the season at 15.71m (51’ 6.5”) earlier in the season. He also ranked No. 3 among the league’s long jumpers during the season.

Safoh, an Aurora, Colorado product, won the RMAC Indoor Champion in the long hump with a leap of 7.46m (24’ 5.75”) and went on to finish seventh in the event at the NCAA Division II Championships. He also added a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash and competed in the long jump at the RMAC Championship.

Boyd, from Bendigo, Australia, was the final leg on Adams State’s second-place distance medley relay team at the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships last month. At the NCAA Division II Championships, he reached the finals of the mile run and ranked fourth among RMAC competitors in that event during the season.

Sparks completes a sweep of the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honors, having been named the Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year earlier. It is the third time he has won the Men’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year award in his 12 seasons as the Orediggers’ head coach.
