GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Regis University scored four straight goals in the first quarter to take control early on and never relinquished that control, fending off a late Colorado Mesa rally to post a 12-8 victory to claim the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship – their sixth consecutive tournament title.
With the win, Regis earns the RMAC's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship. The 24-team field will be announced on Sunday, May 4 with first-round games taking place on Thursday, May 8.
Colorado Mesa struck first as Justin Anderson scored at the 12:43 mark. However, Regis leveled the score at the 10:50 mark on a Shea Murphy goal. The Rangers took control three minutes later, scoring three goals in a 50-second span: Lexie Springman at 7:30 followed by Murphy's second of the game at 6:55, and finally Justine Spahr's goal at 6:40 to give Regis a 4-1 lead. The teams traded goals before the end of the first quarter and Regis led 5-2 at the first break.
The Rangers scored twice in the opening six minutes of the second frame and the Mavericks responded with two goals before the clock registered five minutes remaining in the half. And again, Regis struck quickly with two goals in less than a minute, including Anderson's third goal of the game, to take a 9-4 lead into halftime.
After a quiet thrid period that saw each team score a goal, Colorado Mesa's Emme Rezoski scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute to trim the deficit to 10-7. But Regis scored two of the game's final three goals to secure the win.
Murphy led Regis with four goals and an assist and finished the tournament with nine goals and was named the tournament's "Most Valuable Player.". Lexie Springman and Aubrey Benton also scored two goals each.
Justine Anderson scored three goals to lead Colorado Mesa's offense.
