COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines redshirt senior Hunter Potrykus is the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Academic Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Tuesday. Potrykus leads a 16-member First Team Academic All-RMAC Team as selected by the league’s athletic communication directors.
Potrykus capped off the 2024-25 indoor track and field season with a second-place finish in the pole vault at the RMAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships. His vault of 5.07 meters (16’ 7.5”) not only earned him First Team All-RMAC honors but also contributed to Colorado School of Mines’ strong performance, helping his team earn 160 points. Nationally, Potrykus was tied for the seventh-best vault in Division II this season, having cleared 5.23 meters (17’ 1.75”) at the Mines Alumni Classic to kick off the season. His consistency throughout the season secured him a spot at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he finished fourth with a mark of 5.44 meters (17’ 10.25”). As a result of his performance during the indoor season, Potrykus earned a spot on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association First Team All-America roster.
Potrykus leads a 16-member First Team Academic All-RMAC group with seven of the league’s men’s indoor track & field-sponsoring institutions represented. Six selections, including Potrykus, are repeat honorees: Colorado School of Mines’ Loic Scomparin and Everett Delate, Colorado Christian’s Matthew Storer and Klay Grant, University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ Thorben Hast, and Chadron State’s Christopher Jennings.
In addition, the RMAC recognized 168 student-athletes, including the 16 Academic All-RMAC honorees, on its 2024-25 Men’s Indoor Track & Field Academic Honor Roll.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who academically maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and have used a season of competition.
Each institution’s athletic communications directors nominate student-athletes who academically maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, along with the other criteria for the Academic Honor Roll, for recognition on the First Team Academic All-RMAC in each sport. The league’s athletic communications directors for that sport vote to compose the First Team Academic All-RMAC and select the Academic Player of the Year. They are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
