Colorado Mesa Wins Twice on Saturday, Claims 2025 RMAC Tournament Title

Mavericks' Cameron Cartwright, named championship's "Most Valuable Player."

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University won back-to-back games against Metropolitan State University of Denver to clinch the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Championship on Saturday at Hamilton Ballpark.

The Mavericks earned the RMAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships. The tournament field will be announced on Sunday at NCAA.com with regional action beginning on Thursday, May 15.

The 2025 RMAC Championship All-Tournament Team was led by Colorado Mesa's Cameron Cartwright, who was the championship's "Most Valuable Player." The Mavericks also saw Stevenson Reynolds, Paul Schoenfeld, and JJ Almeda named to the all-tourney team. Andrew Graham, Easton Amundson, Brad Helton, and Andrew Biddle represented MSU Denver, while Adams State’s Connor Murray and Regis’ Adam Paniagua were also all-tourney selections.
 
 

Game 1: Colorado Mesa def. MSU Denver, 14-9

Cameron Cartwright’s ninth-inning grand slam punctuated a five-run inning as Colorado Mesa pushed past MSU Denver, 14-9, in Game 1 of the Championship Round, forcing a winner-take-all final. The Mavericks opened with the game’s first six runs only to see the Roadrunners’ offense find its legs in the middle of the game. Andrew Biddle’s two-run single and Erubiel Ortiz’s three-run home run in the fourth trimmed the deficit to 6-5. The Roadrunners took the lead one inning later on Easton Amundson’s two-run home run, 8-7. Colorado Mesa regained the lead in the eighth as five of the first six batters reached safely, with Kennedy Hara’s RBI single and Cartwright’s bases-loaded walk providing the inning’s runs. Cartwright delivered the clinching blow in the ninth. CMU reliever Cayden Clark picked up the win with 3.0 scoreless innings while closer JJ Almeda notched his fourth save by recording the game’s final five outs. Cartwright went 4-for-5 with a double, home run, and eight RBI. Ortiz, Cam Yuran, and Amundson each had home runs to lead MSU Denver’s offense.

Game 2: Colorado Mesa def. MSU Denver, 18-5

Colorado Mesa scored 13 runs in the first two innings and wasn’t threatened in an 18-5 victory to win the 2025 RMAC Baseball Championship on Saturday evening at Hamilton Ballpark. Reynolds and Hara each had two-run doubles in a six-run first inning. In the second, Schoenfeld provided a grand slam after Travis Rheem’s two-run shot as the lead expanded to 13-2. The Mavericks tacked on a run in the third, three more in the fourth, and another in the fifth to build their 18-5 lead. Amundson provided all five of the Roadrunners' runs with a two-run homer in the second and a three-run homer in the fourth. Schoenfeld was 3-for-6 with four RBI to pace the Mavericks' attack. Tyler Glowacki supplied 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to notch the win with David Craig picking up his first save by holding MSU Denver scoreless over the final three innings.
