COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University senior Teo Casados is the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, the league announced Monday, along with its other major award winners and the All-RMAC roster.
Chadron State University sophomore Chayton Bynes and University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior KJ McInnis share the league’s Field Athlete of the Year honor. Colorado Mesa’s Aidan Brownell and Chadron State University’s Trace Hanchett shared the league’s Freshman Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year honor. UCCS head coach Ross Fellows is the Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year after leading the Mountain Lions to their fifth consecutive RMAC title.
Casados, a Thornton, Colorado product, was the RMAC Champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes last month, posting a personal best in the 200-meter final, and was a member of the Mavericks’ second-place 4x100-meter relay team. He was selected to compete in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Division II Championships this week thanks to his 20.42 mark at the RMAC Championships, which is the third-best mark in Division II this season.
Bynes, from Chadron, Nebraska, finishes his 2024-25 season as the Co-Field Athlete of the Year in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the RMAC Outdoor Championships, he was the winner of the long jump event and finished second in the triple jump. It capped a strong outdoor season, which saw him win both the long and triple jumps in all three competitions he entered before the RMAC Championships. He will compete in the triple jump at this week’s NCAA championships after posting the 10th-best mark in Division II (15.54m, 51’ 0”) at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in late March.
McInnis’ 2024-25 Track & Field season, capped by his Co-Field Athlete of the Year nod, included earning the Dr. Randy Rhine Performer of the Meet during both the indoor and outdoor RMAC Championships. During the outdoor championships, the Denver, Colorado, product won the high and triple jumps and finished third in the long jump. The win in the high jump completed a sweep of both the indoor and outdoor titles in the event by McInnis.
Brownell, of LaSalle, Colorado, made the finals in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdle events at the RMAC Championships, finishing fifth in the 400-meter event and seventh in the 110-meter competition. He closed his outdoor campaign by posting the RMAC’s fourth-best mark (52.35) in the 400 hurdles at the APU Franson Last Chance earlier this month.
Hanchett, from Philipsburg, Kansas, made his mark at the RMAC Championships with a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw. However, the freshman made a big leap in the event with an RMAC season best of 66.93m (219’ 7”) at the Loper Twilight, earning him a spot at the NCAA Division II Championships this week.
Fellows sweeps the RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honors this season by claiming the men’s crown. He led the Mountain Lions to their fifth consecutive RMAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The UCCS men’s team will send 11 individuals to compete in six individual events and two relay competitions at this week’s NCAA Championships.
Ninety-seven individuals earned All-RMAC recognition for 130 total honors, with 12 institutions represented. The All-RMAC Teams are based on results at the RMAC Championships, with first-, second-, and third-place finishers named First Team All-RMAC and fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finishers earning Second Team All-RMAC recognition. Additionally, members of the first-place relay teams earned First Team All-RMAC honors, while second-place relay teams received Second Team All-RMAC recognition.
