COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With winter sports in full swing and spring sports nearing their season openers, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams and athletes are continuing to attract national attention. This week, 38 RMAC teams and individuals were recognized in their respective sports' national rankings.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) men’s poll featured one RMAC team, with Black Hills State University at No. 21.
On Saturday, Black Hills State takes a trip to the Western Slope to face Western Colorado University.
The RMAC Men’s Basketball Championship is set to open on Tuesday, March 3, with the Semifinals and Championship games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
In the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Coaches’ Poll, Colorado Mesa was the only RMAC team ranked, holding their position as the No. 9 ranked team in the country.
As league play reaches its halfway point, the Mavericks host Chadron State College on Saturday.
The RMAC Women’s Basketball Championship will start on Tuesday, March 3 on the campus sites of the highest seeds. The Semifinals and Championship games will take place Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
MEN’S WRESTLING
The most recent edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Men’s Wrestling Top 25 featured all seven RMAC Men’s Wrestling teams, four ranked and three receiving votes. Adams State University takes over as the highest-ranked RMAC team at No. 16, followed closely by Chadron State at No. 17. Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines share the No. 22 ranking. New Mexico Highlands University, Colorado State University Pueblo, and Western Colorado University received votes.
11 RMAC wrestlers were nationally ranked in the Top 15 individuals coaches' poll. Individually, in the 125-pound weight class, Adams State’s Isaiah Gamez is the nation’s second-best wrestler in this class, while Chadron State’s Quade Smith is No. 4. Colorado State University Pueblo’s Jacob Myers is the No. 11 wrestler in the 133-pound class. CSU Pueblo’s Eddie Bowman (No. 13) and Chadron State’s Caleb Chaves (No. 14) are the two wrestlers ranked in the 141-pound division. In the 149-pound division, Colorado School of Mines’ Cody Thompson is the No. 3 ranked wrestler in Division II. Aaden Valdez from Adams State is ranked No. 3 in the 157-pound weight class, while Colorado Mesa’s Owen Cline is ranked No. 7, and Western Colorado University’s Vinny Cabral is No. 11. In the 165-pound weight class, New Mexico Highlands University’s Ivan Smith is ranked No. 8. Keegan Gehlhausen from Chadron State is the No. 4 wrestler in the 184-pound division. Colorado Mesa’s Gabriel Carranza is the No. 8 wrestler in the 197-pound division.
On Friday, CSU Pueblo will face Chadron State, while Colorado Mesa hosts Colorado School of Mines. The following day, Western Colorado takes on the University of Nebraska–Kearney, and Adams State faces Ouachita Baptist University. New Mexico Highlands will host the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday, followed by CSU Pueblo meeting the Bronchos on Sunday.

The most recent National Wrestling Coaches' Association’s Women’s Wrestling Top 25 featured two RMAC Women’s Wrestling teams, and eight nationally ranked individuals in the top 10 individuals coaches' poll. The two ranked teams are No. 7 Colorado Mesa and No. 10 Simon Fraser University, which shares the spot with Northern Michigan University.
Individually, Colorado Mesa’s Mia Zuniga retained the No. 3 spot in the 103-pound division this month, while teammate Sophia Cornish is No. 10 in the 117-pound division. Mavericks’ wrestler Lorianna Piestewa is the No. 7 wrestler in the nation in the 124-pound division. Simon Fraser’s Ella Finding is the No. 7 ranked wrestler in the 131-pound class. Simon Fraser’s Liv Weiber and Colorado Mesa’s Gretchen Donnally retained their rankings at No. 5 and No. 10 in the 145-pound weight class, respectively. Colorado Mesa’s Jayleen Sekona is No. 5. in the 207-pound division, while Simon Fraser’s Julia Richey is No. 6.
This is the final national ranking before the 2025-26 RMAC Women's Wrestling Championship takes place at the Air Force Academy on January 31. MEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING
Two RMAC Men’s Swim & Dive teams were ranked in the most recent coaches poll published by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA). Colorado Mesa improved to No. 4, while Colorado School of Mines is ranked No. 19.
The Mavericks will take on Brigham Young University and the Air Force Academy on Friday and Saturday, while the Orediggers return to action on February 6 at the First Chance Invitational, hosted by the University of Denver.
The 2025-26 RMAC Swim & Dive Championship, hosted by Colorado Mesa, is a little over two weeks away and is set to take place February 10-14, 2026.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING
In the latest Women’s Swim & Dive coaches’ poll from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA), three squads were featured representing the RMAC. Colorado Mesa was No. 3, Colorado School of Mines was No. 11, and Simon Fraser was No. 15.
Colorado Mesa faces BYU and Air Force, while Simon Fraser takes on California State University East Bay and University of the Pacific this weekend. Colorado School of Mines' next competition is the First Chance Invitational, hosted by Denver.
The 2025-26 RMAC Swim & Dive Championship kicks off February 10-14, 2026, in Grand Junction, Colorado at the El Pomar Natatorium.
MEN’S LACROSSE
The USA Lacrosse’s Men’s Preseason Top 20 featured one RMAC team, reigning RMAC Champion Colorado Mesa, which was ranked No. 15 heading into the season.
The Mavericks’ first game is February 8 against Rockhurst University in Alamosa on the campus of Adams State.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Two RMAC Women’s Lacrosse teams were featured in USA Lacrosse’s Women’s Preseason Top 20. Regis University received a No. 14 ranking heading into the season, and Colorado Mesa received votes in the poll.
Regis opens their season hosting Colorado College on February 7, while the Mavericks’ first contest is February 10 against Saint Leo University.
