COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo senior midfielder Brandon Sanchez, along with senior defender Zach Peroff from South Dakota School of Mines, and goalkeeper Lucas Martin of Fort Lewis College garnered the latest Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive, Defensive, and Goalkeeper of the Week awards, the conference announced Tuesday.
OFFENSIVE
Brandon Sanchez, CSU Pueblo (Senior, Midfielder, Tucson, Ariz.)
Sanchez put together a breakout offensive performance for eighth-ranked CSU Pueblo, leading the ThunderWolves with two goals and four points during an unbeaten 1-0-1 week. The senior scored both of his goals in Sunday's 4-2 victory over South Dakota Mines, recording his first multi-goal performance of the season and accounting for half of the team’s scoring in the win. Sanchez also recorded the game-winning goal against the Hardrockers while playing 135 minutes across the two matches. He finished the week with three shots (all on goal) and converted two of those opportunities for a .667 shooting percentage.
Others Nominated: Francisco Pinto, Fort Lewis; Edwards Max, Westminster; Richie Tabares Ochoa, Colorado Mesa; Kaidin Reese, Adams State.
DEFENSIVE
Zach Peroff, South Dakota Mines (Senior, Defender, San Diego, Calif.)
Peroff played all 180 minutes over the weekend in two matches, while tallying a goal. Against CSU Pueblo, his performance on defense guided South Dakota Mines to a 2-2 draw against 14
th-ranked UCCS. Then on Sunday, the senior tallied a goal in 90 minutes of action against eighth-ranked CSU Pueblo. He is third on the team in goals with five this season.
Others Nominated: Johan N’Ganzadi, Fort Lewis; Sean Belzer, UCCS; Idress Altaee, Adams State; Daniel Ehler, Colorado Mesa.
GOALKEEPER
Lucas Martin, Fort Lewis (Senior, Goalkeeper, Middlesbrough, England)
Martin stepped up in big moments throughout the weekend to help lift Fort Lewis to a pair of 2-1 wins over both Westminster and (RV) Colorado Mesa, and climb to 7-2-2 on the year and an unbeaten 4-0 in RMAC play. For the week, Martin totaled eight saves, including a penalty kick save, against 10 shots on goal, 31 total shots, and 11 corner kicks. Against Westminster, he limited the Griffins to a single score while fending off 17 shots, six shots on goal, and six corners. Martin's biggest moment came in the 77th minute, when, just six minutes after Westminster got its first goal and began to mount its comeback, he saved a penalty kick attempt low-left at the far post to keep the Skyhawks' one-goal advantage and ultimately cement the win, as the Griffins had two corners and just two shots (both off-target) in the final 13 minutes. On Sunday, against Colorado Mesa, the senior conceded a single goal once more while fending off 14 shots, four shots on goal, and five corners. He tallied a pair of crucial saves inside the area down the stretch, first in the 83rd minute on a header from 12 yards out, and again in the 89th minute on a lunging strike from 6 yards out inside the goal area on a Mavericks free kick near post from just outside of the penalty box.
Others Nominated: Hugo Sjoberg, UCCS; Bryan Amezcua, Adams State; Nathan Beck, Colorado Mesa; Zach Jennings, Regis.
