Colorado School of Mines’ Tim Thompson and Chadron State’s Chayton Bynes Named RMAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Thompson runs all-time fastest 800-meter time at elevation; Bynes grabs top triple jump spot in Division II

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –  Colorado School of Mines' Tim Thompson and Chadron State College's Chayton Bynes have been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Week 5.

The 2025-26 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championship will take place February 27-28 in Gunnison, Colorado, hosted by Western Colorado University.
 

Track Athlete of the Week
Tim Thompson, Colorado School of Mines (Senior, Fort Collins, Colorado)

Thompson posted the fastest 800-meter time in Division II this season at the Colorado Classic in Boulder, winning the event with a converted time of 1:47.41 (1:48.10 raw). This mark is the eighth-fastest all-time 800-meter Division II performance, and the fastest raw time ever recorded at elevation (5,400 feet). Thompson also broke the Oredigger record of 1:48.9, set by Patrick Weaver in 2019, and leads the RMAC in the 800 by more than two seconds.

Field Athlete of the Week
Chayton Bynes, Chadron State (Junior, Chadron, Nebraska)

At the Wildcat Invite, hosted by Wayne State College, Bynes delivered a dominant performance in the triple jump, winning the event by more than seven feet with a leap of 16.01 meters (52-6.5). The Chadron native broke the Eagles' previous record by 10 inches, previously set in 2019 by Isaac Grimes' jump of 15.75 meters (51-8). Bynes currently holds the No. 1 mark in Division II, and the No. 18 mark across all NCAA divisions.
