COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University redshirt junior Connor Jensen and junior Shaden Shields are the latest winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Athletes of the Week, presented Monday.
Offensive
Connor Jensen, Colorado Mesa (R-Junior, Attacker, Brentwood, Tennessee)
Jensen was an offensive force for the Mavericks during a 1-1 week against Palm Beach Atlantic University and the University of Tampa. He recorded his first hat trick of the season and added two assists for a five-point performance in the Mavs’ 18-12 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Jensen followed that effort with a goal and an assist on Sunday against No. 4 Tampa. He finished the weekend with four goals, three assists, and seven points on seven shots, while also adding two ground balls against Palm Beach Atlantic.
Defensive
Shaden Shields, Colorado Mesa (Junior, Goalie, Naples, Florida)
Shields earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after turning in two standout performances in his home state of Florida. The Mavericks’ goalkeeper totaled 26 saves across two games during the weekend. He opened the week with 11 saves and a caused turnover in the Mavs’ 18-12 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Shields then recorded a season-high 15 saves while forcing another turnover against No. 4 Tampa on Sunday. His efforts anchored the Mavericks’ defense throughout the weekend.
