CCU’s Hanson and BHSU’s Honse Capture RMAC Softball Player of the Week Awards

Hanson has nine hits and seven RBI; Honse records the first complete games of her season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Christian University sophomore Kat Hanson and Black Hills State University redshirt junior Sophia Honse are the Week 7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the week award winners, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.

Kat Hanson, Colorado Christian (Sophomore, Second Base, Apache Junction, Arizona)
Hanson delivered a standout performance for the Cougars, powering her team to a four-game sweep of Colorado School of Mines. Across the homestand, the sophomore totaled nine hits in 14 plate appearances, driving in seven runs and scoring five times, with two of those on home runs. She finished the week with an impressive .643 batting average, a 1.143 slugging percentage, and a .667 on-base percentage.

Hanson set the tone in the series opener, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run. She followed that up with another dominant showing in the second game of the doubleheader, recording two hits, two runs, a second home run, and three RBI.

She stayed hot the next day, tallying four hits in five plate appearances in game one, while adding another run and three RBI. Hanson closed out the sweep with one hit and a run scored, helping CCU secure a 3-1 victory over the Orediggers.

Pitcher
Sophia Honse, Black Hills State (R-Junior, Pitcher, Salem, Oregon)
Honse turned in one of the top performances of her season, earning RMAC Pitcher of the Week honors while leading the Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 series win over Regis University, including two victories of her own.

In her first appearance, Honse was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game seven-inning effort without allowing an earned run. She allowed nine hits, struck out six, and stranded nine runners, guiding the Yellow Jackets to a 5-1 win over the Rangers. She followed that performance with another complete game, carrying a no-hitter through 3.1 innings and limiting Regis to just three hits until the final frame, when the Rangers managed three late hits.

For the week, Honse logged 14 innings, allowing 14 hits while surrendering no earned runs and striking out eight. The pair of complete games marked the first of her season and came in just her second and third starts of the year.
