COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University senior outfielder Cameron Cartwright and University of Colorado Colorado Springs redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Gerrit Erickson are the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Baseball Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Three teams remain unbeaten in RMAC play after the first three weeks. Nationally-ranked Colorado Mesa leads the group at 12-0, followed by Metropolitan State University of Denver at 8-0. UCCS is third in the league at 11-0-1. All three were ranked in Monday’s NCBWA South Central Region poll, with the Mavericks an undisputed No. 1, MSU Denver at No. 5, and UCCS at No. 8.
Week 4 action sees Colorado Mesa host Colorado School of Mines, UCCS hosts New Mexico Highlands University, and MSU Denver hosts Adams State University, while Colorado State University Pueblo hosts Colorado Christian University. Regis University has the week off.

Cartwright opened Colorado Mesa’s series against Colorado Christian with a powerful statement, going 5-for-5 with three home runs and nine RBI in a seven-inning game, and finished the series 7-for-14 with 11 RBI. He opened the weekend’s scoring with a three-run home run in the first, hit a second three-run homer in the second, and tacked on a solo home run to cap a nine-pitch at-bat in the 4th. He then added an RBI double in the sixth and an RBI in the seventh to cap his 5-for-5 outing. He was held without a hit in Saturday’s doubleheader, but reached base four times and scored twice. He capped the weekend with a 2-for-6 effort.

Erickson wrapped up UCCS’ sweep of Adams State with six shutout innings in the Mountain Lions’ 3-1 victory. He scattered three hits and two walks over his six innings and struck out two of the 22 batters he faced. It was his fourth win this season, but first since Feb. 27.
