COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University’s 4x100 relay team and Chadron State College’s Chayton Bynes are the Week 1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, presented by Genesee Nutrition, the conference announced Wednesday.
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Colorado Mesa 4x100 Relay Team (Amaris Mora, Joseph Randolph, Marik Cummings, Teo Casados)
Colorado Mesa’s 4x100 relay squad of Amaris Mora, Joseph Randolph, Marik Cummings, and Teo Casados started the outdoor track & field season on the right note, as they dominated the Maverick Early Bird Open. At the event, the relay team recorded a time of 39.62, crushing the previous Colorado Mesa record by 0.59 seconds. Their altitude-converted time of 39.74 is the top mark in all of DII this season, besting second place by 0.17 seconds.

Field Athlete of the Week
Chayton Bynes, Chadron State (Junior, Chadron, Nebraska)
Bynes secured his first award of the outdoor season in impressive fashion, taking home first place in the triple jump at the Con Marshall Early Bird in Chadron, Nebraska. At his home meet, the junior leapt for 15.73 meters, breaking his own outdoor school record of 15.54m. Additionally, Bynes’ mark is the best mark in DII to start the outdoor season, sitting ahead of second-place by 0.04 meters.
