COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines’ Dawson Gunn joins head coach Matt Sparks, along with Chadron State College’s Chayton Bynes and Colorado State University Pueblo’s Caleb McLeod, in being named 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field end-of-season award winners, the league announced Thursday. The RMAC awards are selected and voted on by the league’s 13 men’s indoor track & field head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their student-athletes.

Dawson Gunn is the RMAC’s Track Athlete of the Year, after a season filled with outstanding performances. The junior from Sweetwater, Texas, took home the conference title in the 5,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 14:52.75, nearly six seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Gunn would qualify for the NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Championship and finish in second place with a time of 13:47.70, less than a half-second behind national champion Luca Poppe from Wingate University.

Chayton Bynes defends his 2025 Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year titles after taking off this season, representing his hometown school, Chadron State. The junior jumper improved his personal best mark in the triple jump by 30 centimeters, going from 15.71 meters to 16.01 meters, setting a new Chadron State record. Bynes won the RMAC triple jump title with his best mark and new RMAC Championship meet record of 15.99 meters and finished third in long jump with a mark of 7.01 meters. He would advance to the national championship with the top mark in the country and finish in third with a best jump of 15.79 meters.

Redshirt freshman Caleb McLeod, a product of Fife, Scotland, earns Freshman of the Year honors. McLeod took second in the 800-meter run at the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championship with a time of 1:51.61 and was a part of the first-place distance-medley-relay squad with teammates Ryan King, Tim Anstett, and Jon Sweepe that finished in 10:03.15. He qualified for the national championship in the 800-meter and DMR and took home All-America honors in both. McLeod finished fourth in the 800-meter with a personal best time of 1:49.02 and finished fifth in the DMR in 9:41.83.

In his 13th season at the helm of Colorado School of Mines, Matt Sparks earned his fourth Men’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honor. Under his expertise, the Orediggers finished as the RMAC runner-up behind conference champion University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the 2026 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championship and achieved a second-consecutive top 10 finish at the 2026 NCAA Division II National Championship, finishing ninth overall.

The All-RMAC Teams are based on results at the RMAC Championships. First-, second-, and third-place finishers are named First Team All-RMAC. Fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finishers earn Second Team All-RMAC recognition. Members of first-place relay teams get First Team honors, while second-place relays are Second Team.
