Golden Eagles’ Carresi posts 14-point outing in win against Dominican; Roughton leads Mavericks defense that only allows 18 goals in two wins

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –   Concordia University Irvine senior midfielder Matt Carresi and Colorado Mesa University defender Reed Roughton claimed the latest Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Athletes of the Week awards, presented Monday.

Offensive

Matt Carresi, Concordia University Irvine (Senior, Midfielder, Rossmoor, California)
 Carresi posted eight goals and six assists as Concordia University Irvine downed Dominican University 27-7 in RMAC play. His 14-point performance is tied for the fourth-most points in a match among Division II players this season, with his eight goals ranked seventh and six assists ranked sixth this season. Against the Penguins, Carresi rallied four goals in a 4:18 span of the second period, expanding the lead from 9-2 to 13-2. He then assisted on four consecutive goals in 6:53 between the third and fourth quarters as the lead reached 21-6. Carresi had eight assists on eight shots on goal and nine total shots and also recorded two groundballs.

Defensive

Reed Roughton, Colorado Mesa (Junior (RS), Defender/Long Stick Midfielder, Highlands Ranch, Colorado)
Roughton paced a Colorado Mesa defense that allowed just 18 goals in two RMAC wins last week – a 13-12 overtime victory at Westminster and a 17-6 win at Northwest Nazarene. He set career highs with four groundballs and three caused turnovers in the overtime thriller at Westminster. Roughton then notched two caused turnovers at Northwest Nazarene.
