COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Black Hills State redshirt sophomore Cam Lowe has been named the 2025-26 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, the conference announced Thursday. Lowe headlines this year’s slate of major award winners and All-RMAC selections.

Fort Lewis redshirt sophomore Stewart Erhart earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Colorado School of Mines freshman Shelton Henton was named Freshman of the Year. Black Hills State head coach Ryan Thompson also received top recognition, claiming RMAC Coach of the Year honors to join Lowe among the conference’s major award recipients.

The league’s 15 head men’s basketball coaches nominated and voted for the RMAC Men’s Basketball Major Awards and All-RMAC teams, with coaches unable to vote for their own student-athletes.

Lowe delivered another outstanding season for the Yellow Jackets, culminating in the Player of the Year Award. The guard finished sixth in the conference in scoring at 17.5 points per game and ninth in rebounding at 6.3 boards per contest. He also ranked 10th in field goal percentage (.492) and sixth in three-point percentage (.421), while knocking down the third-most three-pointers in the conference with 80 made from beyond the arc. One of Lowe’s best performances of the season came in a late-season clash against Colorado Mesa. Against the Mavericks, the Colorado Springs native dropped 31 points on a wildly efficient 12-of-15 shooting from the field, including knocking down 7-of-10 three-point shots. His impressive scoring total was the fifth-highest single-game outing in the conference this season, as the Yellow Jackets took down the Mavericks 85-63 in Grand Junction.

Erhart claims the Defensive Player of the Year award after an entire season of anchoring Fort Lewis. The redshirt-sophomore led all of Division II with 91 steals this season, averaging an outstanding 3.5 steals per game. Beyond his defensive impact, Erhart was a consistent offensive force, ranking seventh in the conference with 17.4 points per game. He also turned in one of the top scoring performances of the season, pouring in 32 points, the fourth-highest single-game total in the conference this year. With Erhart leading the way, Fort Lewis secured the No. 4 seed in the 2026 RMAC Men’s Basketball Championship, finishing the regular season 18-10 overall and 15-5 in conference play.

Henton made an immediate impact for the Orediggers in his debut season at the collegiate level. The freshman averaged 10.6 points per game this year, while shooting 42% from the field, 43% from three, and 79% from the free throw line. He also distributed the rock well, collecting 71 assists on the year. Through his 31 games played this year, Henton racked up 22 starts and 761 minutes of action. The freshman turned in one of his best performances of the year on January 22 against Regis University, erupting for 37 points thanks to 13-of-19 shooting from the field and 11-of-17 shooting from range, leading his team to a 12081 win.

Thompson was named Coach of the Year after guiding Black Hills State through a standout 2025-26 campaign. In his eighth season at the helm of the Yellow Jackets, he led the program to a 24-4 overall record and a 17-3 mark in RMAC play during the regular season. Under his leadership, BHSU climbed to No. 13 in the nation in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II poll and captured the RMAC regular-season championship. The title secured the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the 2026 conference tournament, capping off one of the most successful regular seasons in Thompson’s tenure.

Twelve of the RMAC’s 15 men’s basketball sponsoring institutions are represented among the 20 selections to the league’s First and Second Team All-RMAC squads. Adams State, Black Hills State, Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University Pueblo, Fort Lewis, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs each placed two student-athletes on the First or Second Team. Colorado Christian, New Mexico Highlands, South Dakota Mines, and Western Colorado each place one honoree on the rosters.
