COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University senior outfielder Kolby Felix and Metropolitan State University Denver junior right-handed pitcher Jake Syverson are the Week 10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Colorado Mesa, the nation’s No. 1 team, remained unbeaten in RMAC play after sweeping a hard-fought series against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs last weekend. The Mavericks and their 20-game win streak are three games ahead in the standings with 12 games remaining as they prepare to host sixth-place Regis this weekend in Grand Junction.
MSU Denver suffered its first loss of the RMAC season last week but won the four-game series against Colorado Christian. The Roadrunners host Colorado State University Pueblo, the league’s current fifth-place team, this weekend in Denver. UCCS will look to bounce back from its series loss to Colorado Mesa when it hosts fourth-place Colorado School of Mines this weekend in Colorado Springs. Elsewhere, New Mexico Highlands University hosts Adams State University, while Colorado Christian University steps out of league play and travels to Fort Hays State University.

Kolby Felix, Colorado Mesa (Senior, Outfielder, Sun City, Arizona)
Felix batted .625 (10-of-16) with a double, two triples, and two home runs as Colorado Mesa remained unbeaten in RMAC play with a four-game sweep of UCCS last weekend. He opened the series with a 3-for-5 effort that saw him finish a double short of the cycle while hitting a two-run home run in a 17-13 CMU victory. Felix was 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader and then 1-for-3 with a RBI double in the nightcap. He closed the series with another 3-for-5 performance that was again a double shy of the cycle, but with a solo home run. Felix reached base at a .667 clip (12-of-18), had five RBI, and scored seven runs.

Jake Syverson, MSU Denver (Junior, Right-Handed Pitcher, Broomfield, Colorado)
Syverson, the Roadrunners Game 1 starter, became the first RMAC pitcher this season to go nine innings in a start, and tied the RMAC’s season high with 11 strikeouts in MSU Denver’s 4-3 extra-inning victory against Colorado Christian on Friday. He surrendered three runs in the third inning, but locked in after that, retiring 19 consecutive batters and allowing MSU Denver to rally back to tie the game and force extra innings. Syverson’s 11-strikeout day (five caught looking) came without him allowing a walk and only three hits to the 32 batters he faced (.194 opponent’s batting average).
