Colorado Mesa nabs 2019 #RMACwbb/Under Armour Tournament Championship

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO.—The 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC)/Under Armour Women’s Basketball Tournament concluded tonight No. 1 seeded Colorado Mesa was able to defend their home court with a 67-50 win over No. 2 seeded Westminster.

The Mavericks won the season battle with the Griffins as the two teams faced each other twice during the regular season and both teams winning their home contest.

Colorado Mesa led the entire way as they pleased a packed house of 1,653 inside Brownson Arena. Senior Jaylyn Duran led all scorers by hitting 11-of-15 from the field and 27 points. Teammate Sydni Brandon was named Tournament MVP after two stellar performances that included a huge three-quarter three-pointer at the end of the third.

Westminster, who were appearing in their first-ever RMAC title game, was led by Kaitlin Toluono and Olivia Ellis, who each scored 12 points.

The Mavericks will receive the automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Tournament and the Griffins will seek a spot in the tournament as well. The teams will find out their seed and opponents as the 64-team field will be announced tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. MST during the NCAA Selection Show.
